Here at 86Drive we have you covered for all the IndyCar action right here in California with the season wrapping up a little over a week ago in Sonoma for the GoPro Grand Prix. The title was on the line with Will Power trying to chase down Simon Pagenaud for the season title.
The groups were spread out after a few laps, avoiding a yellow until lap 36.
We had great seats right at the Start/Finish line with a good view of the pits as well. 5.9sec stop with fuel? Damn they are fast.
The battle was short lived however as Power suffered a clutch failure to bring out the first Yellow, but it did bring the field back together to get some more racing action.
It may not have mattered though as Pagenaud was building a lead from the very start from pole position. It is Pagenaud’s first IndyCar title coming behind his 5 wins in the 2016 season. Pagenaud was so fast he was a blur crossing the finish line haha
Alexander Rossi finished 5th after running out of gas and being passed by Ryan Hunter-Reay on front straight to finish a solid rookie season where he took home Rookie of the Year honors.
Big congrats to Simon and his team on the championship. He really left it all on the track to bring home the win, needing a tow back to victory lane.
Can’t wait until the 2017 season is here and we will be back in Long Beach when the time comes.
